The near breaking point for me on this project, I wanted to include this very intense song because it was precisely about my generation singing to my father’s, saying, “you promised us peace, you promised us a dove, and now here we are, still fighting.” It is a song expressing grief and anguish, but not blame. It speaks with understanding of the sense of disappointment that both generations feel to their core. I could not get through rehearsing this song without stopping and sitting down to sob quite bitterly each time. I barely kept it together enough to record it. I’m glad I did.
