I had never heard this song before embarking on this project, but when I asked both of my sisters if there were any songs they associated with Dad, the younger of them said he’d told her that this was his favourite song. I couldn’t believe he had a favourite song I didn’t know about, but when I listened to it, and my sister told me what it was about, I was tear-filled. This song, written far too long ago (1892) for it to still burn so true, is the stating of deep and persistent faith in the triumph of the heart of humankind and peace over the hardships of poverty and hatred, incredibly powerful words I was glad to get to know. It urges this vision to continue to play upon our dreams.
