World traveling Canadian songstress Orit Shimoni’s much anticipated fifth album is ready to share, and both lyrically and sonically, it is a respect worthy collection. Shimoni’s highly acclaimed songs and vocals are matched here with gorgeous performances by renowned musicians: Juno and Maple Blues award winner Julian Fauth on piano, drummer Paul Brennan (Sarah McLachlan, Odds, Big Sugar, Alannah Myles to name a few), Tim Hamel on trumpet (Tim Hamel Trio, the Cookers, Derek Miller Band), as well as Toronto music-scene stalwarts, Ken Yoshioka with his magical harps and guitar sounds, and James Thomson on upright bass.
With fourteen songs written throughout the last five and half years on the road in Canada and Europe, Shimoni hooked up with the band while in Toronto, they fell in musical love, and decided to press record. Blending more jazz and blues than in her previous four albums, but still ‘all-about-the-lyrics’, this new flavour of Orit is not going to be a hard adjustment for her fans and it is sure to win her new ones. Her shoot-from-the-hip song writing is at its most delightful flare, and everything glistens with a classy and classic sheen.
On permanent tour, the self-managing troubadour will be performing in Canada, Europe and who knows where else. Check out her website for details.
